We Took Back Control: The WeSendit Node Network Puts Privacy First

Back in 2023, we proudly announced our plans to develop and release our very own distributed storage network. This was a monumental step for us, driven by our unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence. Our main platform has always relied on partner storage solutions. While these each bring their own strengths, they also come with limitations — most notably, neither you nor we have any control over the data privacy and architecture of these networks.

Recognizing the importance of data privacy and the need for a more streamlined approach, we embarked on a journey to create something truly exceptional. Our vision: to build a network that not only matches but surpasses the security and speed of existing solutions, while placing an absolute emphasis on your privacy — free from external influences and vulnerabilities.

Review: Development of the Dev Network

For over 12 months, we have been meticulously planning, testing, and developing behind the scenes. This project is not just about creating another web application with a familiar architecture — we are pioneering new methods for securing, storing, and transferring data. This research-driven approach makes our project unique.

In November 2024, we deployed our first master node, followed by a dozen storage nodes for our development network. This milestone was accompanied by rigorous security audits, performance tests, and extensive measurements to ensure everything functions flawlessly.

What's Coming

After successfully developing our nodes in the lab, we launched our dev network last year. Unlike a lab environment, the development network runs on real servers in different locations — letting us deploy, test, and troubleshoot in a real-world scenario. Now we are in the final stage of Go-Live preparation. Mark your calendars for April 2, 2025, when node installation will be publicly available.

Initially, we will route all platform traffic from transfers through our node network — done gradually to ensure the network can handle the capacity. As more capacity becomes available, more traffic will be routed to the network. Simultaneously, we are working on a new way for you to manage files and storage locations all in one place on wesendit.com.

Rollout: Starting with Europe

We are launching our network in Europe first and will gradually expand to other regions. The primary reason is key metrics like bandwidth and response times, which are optimal near the master node. With a gradual rollout of additional master nodes and our partner Huawei Cloud, we're ready for global availability.

Insights: Run a Node on Any Device

We've completely redefined the specifications of our storage nodes. Our storage node can now be installed on any device, virtual machine, or storage system with Docker capabilities — yes, any device! All you need is Docker and two simple lines of code to contribute your storage to our network. While other projects may have you spending hours wrestling with command-line interfaces, with our system you can run and onboard a node in just two minutes.

Beyond our easy setup, we've pioneered groundbreaking methods to further secure our network — leveraging the highest standards of encryption and researching tamper protection through blockchain interactions. With this, every single fragment of your files is protected at all times and in every location.
